A letter to black students: everywhere you turn, know that you are cherished: Every thought, every word, and every page. You are worthy of our rich history, so let it be a reminder of your greatness.
In this collection, Black and African-American elementary, middle, and high school students ages 8 to 18 showcase their views on Blackness, proclamations of freedom, and reflections of the current state of our world. Through their authentic and unique lens, let their writings lead you on a literary journey that helps with the understanding of where they come from and who they truly are.
826 Valencia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting under-resourced students with their writing skills. Our Black Students' Initiative, launched in fall 2020, seeks to create new opportunities to specifically support Black students in our programs.
