A collection of speculative and imaginative fiction writing from 10th-grade students, ages 15 to 17, at June Jordan School for Equity in San Francisco.

After exploring short stories from the likes of Cherie Dimaline, Adrienne Maree Brown, and Walidah Imarisha, these young authors created their own worlds, focusing on theme, character, setting, dialogue, and narrative structure.

This book contains mature content. 826 Valencia encourages students to write pieces that are meaningful to them. In this vein, these works by high school students address a range of issues, and therefore contain topics, themes, and language that may not be suitable for readers under the age of fourteen.

826 Valencia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting under-resourced students ages six to eighteen with their creative and expository writing skills and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Our services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success.
